villageBurham

The history of the village of Burham can be traced back to Roman times. AD43 saw the Battle of the Medway at the crossing point on the River Medway where Burham is now situated, when the invading Roman legions, advancing west across Kent, were confronted by a massed army of the ancient British Tribes. The Roman victory altered the course of history in Britain, and the remains of Roman buildings have been found in Burham and the neighbouring village of Eccles.
There has been a Settlement in Burham since Saxon times, "ham" being the Saxon word for "Settlement" - the "Bur" part of the name comes from "Burgh", or Borough, referring to the Borough of Rochester. The name "Burham" literally means "the village near the borough".

This is Matthew doing one of his favourite pastimes, playing for Burham!

The current Burham Football Club was formed in 2003 when three villagers found the team their sons played for had folded. Rather than go to another club they decided to start a local team. A committee was soon formed with willing local parishioners who wanted something to happen and the club entered the Invicta Primary League in May 2003. Burham-FC-logo

In the first season the club had just one Under 10 team but this was surpassed the following year when the club expanded to four teams taking on Under 10s, 11s, 12s and Adults. This season also saw the introduction of the new blue and white football kit, all teams wearing it and fully sponsored. The club also designed a badge, agreed by the committee. With modern technology the badge is now used to promote merchandise and branding
