choc fountain smallA collection of photographs taken in Belgium, the photo's cover mainly Brussels and the Ardennes. I've put the Leuven and Bruges collection in a separate gallery due to the unique nature of the towns. There's also a couple of photo's of De Panne, a seaside town but these were taken in December so not too many people bathing! Click HERE for a partial tour of Belgium.

night building smallerLeuven lies approximately 25 kilometres from the centre of Brussels. The town is steeped in history with many beautiful examples of Gothic architecture. Despite being so close to the predominantly French speaking Brussels I hardly ever heard anything but Flemish spoken in Leuven. In 1466 the Den Horen Brewery was opened, one of the beers produced was Stela Artois. The original building was destroyed however it's replacement now enjoys National Monument status.

Bruges canal smallerThanks to it's canal network Bruges is known as "The Venice of the North" Another of Belgium's predominantly Flemish towns many of the restaurants make an amazing Flemish beef stew called Carbonnade, one of the ingredients is a good Belgian beer, of course!! Click HERE to see some of Bruges or Brugge as it is in Flemish.

Amsterdam, well, won't go into the attractions its most famous for but click HERE to see the scenery.

mont blanc smallOur first European holiday was to Chamonix in the French Alps, Chamonix sits at the foot of Europe's highest mountain, Mont Blanc. We took a cable car 3,800 meters up then crossed over the mountains and glaciers in a small 4 person gondola type cable car. Although photos will never be able to show the grandeur click HERE to have a look

river in salzburg smallWe stayed in the Village of Kaprun in the Austrian Alps, we were close enough to spend a day in the beautiful city of Salzburg, home of "The Sound of Music" The Kaprun area of Austria is "chocolate box" scenery, from the majestic Alps to the green valleys and lakes. preferred bridge smallerKent, our home county and known as "The Garden of England" We've lived here for over 3 years now and don't ever see ourselves leaving the area. Apart from a wealth of history and natural beauty Kent's location is perfect, Dover is on the doorstep with its links to Europe, London is 35 miles away and we're surrounded by beautiful coastline. Click HERE to see a little of what Kent has to offer.
