This is Fiona and myself in a town called Graskop, it's in the the North east region of SA that used to be known as Eastern Transvaal. This is a rather unusual photo as the riding weekends in the mountains were usually "guys only" and as a rule anywhere between 4 and 8 of us. This was just Fiona and me with Georgio and Angela. We took a cabin per couple and settled in to go riding. Georgio and I went riding, the girls went sightseeing and having lunch and other girlie things, it is a beautiful area. We did get into "pooh" on a couple of occasions, scream past the girls exhausts roaring then outbrake them and dive into the corner footpegs either scraping or close to it!!

This is Georgio and myself, it's not possible to see much of his bike but those interested in bikes will recognise it as a 'Blade. Georgio always was consistently faster than me he's also lots lighter than me and to be honest a faster rider! Despite all of this :-) I consider him to be one of my all time greatest friends. We started of as business associates, he was first into riding then when I got my first bike, Suzuki GSXR1100 our friendship developed. We've had a lot of great times, especially with the bikes, House of Lords in Midrand was also cool ;-) you had to be there!

We rarely used to ride to the mountains, miles of flat straight motorway that we inevitably started with an agreement to stick to 160 km/h, that usually lasted the first 15 minutes then 200km/h came along almost as quick as the flat area round the centre of our hot sticky tyres!

The white car was my Primera (wish it was the other one) it's a 200 STi, the car that the racing version was based on. I was very happy with it, not the best "family" car I've ever had but not too bad all the same. This is a Nissan Primera from the British Touring Car Championships. I was looking for a photo of one of the SA BP green livery cars that won the SA Touring Car Championship 5 years in a row

This was a truly special time for us, I had a large car (NOT the Primera) suitable for the more off the beaten track roads and the park was quiet. We would get up early and go out driving to say good morning to the animals, get back to our "rondavel" (small round holiday cottage) and organise breakfast. During the day it was too hot to go out sightseeing so we would stay in and have a sleep ???? Come the cooler evening we would go out again, the lion was photographed on a night drive with a qualified ranger. When we got back we would either do a barbecue or whatever took our fancy, we could then sit on our patio that overlooked a valley below and listen to the noises of the African bush.
Somewhere else in the site I said all I really miss about SA was my friends and bike, add the animals to that list.
